Activist, entrepreneur and visionary, Amina Ramatou Mahamat Houtoin embodies resilience and commitment to her country.
Born into a changing Chad, she grew up in a difficult context marked by inequality and socio-political unrest, yet never let those obstacles define her destiny. From a modest family, she faced early on the challenges many Chadian children know: lack of access to education, patriarchal traditions and a declining economy. Her thirst for learning and her determination pushed her beyond her circumstances: she studied relentlessly, hoping to change things for herself and for others.
Championing women and children
Defending the rights of women and children is at the heart of her commitment. Through her initiatives she works to empower women through education, entrepreneurship and human rights awareness. She has created several education and mentoring programmes to help girls and women find their way, as part of a broader vision of social transformation in which women’s empowerment is a cornerstone of national development.
Entrepreneurship as a lever for change
Ramatou Mahamat Houtoin is also a shrewd entrepreneur. She has founded several social enterprises that help integrate women into the formal economy, particularly in agriculture and crafts. Her flagship company, which processes local agricultural produce, has enabled many rural women to become self-reliant and escape precarity.
Facing challenges
Chad still faces structural problems that hold back its development: political instability, corruption and economic hardship. Ramatou Mahamat Houtoin sees each challenge as a chance to reinvent herself and bring concrete solutions. She does not hide the state’s shortcomings on human rights, but firmly believes change will come from within, through collective effort.
Her message is clear: “Never give up, even in the face of the greatest obstacles. The future belongs to those who fight for it.”
