Chad, a landlocked country in Central Africa, took a major step in its economic and social development by hosting the Chad International Infrastructure Development Forum (FIDIT) in N’Djamena from 18 to 20 February 2025 — a strategic turning point for economic growth and for opening up the country.
Organised by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Opening-up and Road Maintenance (MIDER), the event marked a decisive moment in mobilising technical and financial partners to modernise national infrastructure.
A strategic forum for Chad’s future
FIDIT brought together key players in infrastructure development, including technical partners, financial institutions and international companies. Its main aim was to take stock of Chad’s infrastructure and draw up a roadmap for sustainable development. Discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities of road infrastructure, seen as a key lever for economic growth and for connecting the country.
Concrete commitments
The forum delivered tangible results, with three memorandums of understanding and a major financing agreement signed. Notable commitments include:
- paving the Ati–Oum Hadjer road (171 km), in partnership with China Shandong International;
- rehabilitating Félix Malloum, De Gaulle and 10 October avenues in N’Djamena, awarded to CIRA SAS;
- 27 billion CFA francs from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to pave the Kyabé–Singako road (Kyabé–Mayo section, 49.5 km) and build a 55-metre bridge at Djouna.
These projects reflect international partners’ confidence in Chad’s vision and its ability to transform its infrastructure network.
A vision driven by Chadian leadership
The Minister of Infrastructure, Opening-up and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda, welcomed the progress made: “This forum is a long-awaited turning point for Chad. The commitments made in N’Djamena prove the confidence our partners have in our vision and in our ability to transform our infrastructure network.” He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to keep working with all stakeholders to achieve the country’s infrastructure ambitions.
FIDIT, a lasting platform
Aware of FIDIT’s strategic importance, the Chadian government has decided to institutionalise the event as a permanent forum for dialogue, experience-sharing and fundraising. The next edition is already scheduled for 2027, confirming Chad’s determination to keep up the momentum.
Economic outlook
Road infrastructure is a cornerstone of Chad’s economy. By improving connectivity between regions, these projects will:
- make it easier to move goods and people, cutting logistics costs;
- boost trade and attract foreign investment;
- create local jobs, helping to reduce poverty;
- strengthen regional integration by improving links with neighbouring countries.
The success of FIDIT 2025 opens a new chapter in Chad’s development. With strong partnerships and a clear vision, the country is on its way to modernising its infrastructure — a giant step towards inclusive and sustainable growth. See you in 2027.
